Privacy Policy for YellowHat Parent App

Last updated: April 2, 2026

YellowHat ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the YellowHat Parent App ("Parent App") handles information.

The Parent App is designed to allow parents to link their device to their child's device, manage monitoring settings, and receive alerts about potential concerns.

This app works together with the YellowHat Kids App.

1. Overview

Our approach is privacy-first:

  • • Notification analysis happens on the child's device, not on the parent's device
  • • The Parent App receives only alert metadata and configuration data
  • • Full message content is never transmitted to the Parent App
  • • Parents control what data is collected and shared

2. Account and Authentication

The Parent App requires authentication to link to a child's device.

  • • Linking is done securely via QR code
  • • Account credentials are stored locally on the device
  • • We do not store parent's personal information beyond what is required for the subscription

3. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the service.

a. Account Information (for subscription)

  • • Email address
  • • Device identifiers (linked device ID)
  • • Subscription information (managed by Google Play or Apple App Store)

b. Alert Data Received

The Parent App receives alert information from the linked Kids App:

  • • Category of concern (e.g., bullying, scam, threats)
  • • AI-generated explanation
  • • Timestamp of alert
  • • Optional: limited notification content (only if parent enables this feature)

c. Configuration Data

Parents can configure monitoring settings in the Parent App:

  • • Selected apps to monitor
  • • Keywords to flag or ignore
  • • Notification preferences
  • • These settings are applied to the Kids App via secure transmission

4. Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not:

  • • Store full messages or notification content on our servers by default
  • • Collect the parent's personal data beyond what is needed for subscription
  • • Track the parent's location, apps, or activity
  • • Collect the parent's browsing history

5. How Information Is Used

We use information to:

  • • Authenticate the parent and verify subscription status
  • • Deliver alerts and configuration data between apps
  • • Maintain app functionality

We do not:

  • • Sell user data
  • • Use data for advertising
  • • Share data with third parties for marketing

6. Data Processing and Storage

  • • Alerts are transmitted securely over HTTPS
  • • Alert history is stored locally on the parent's device
  • • We do not store full notification content on our servers by default
  • • Subscription data is managed by Google Play or Apple App Store

7. Subscription and Billing

Subscriptions are managed by the platform app stores:

  • • Google Play (Android)
  • • Apple App Store (iOS)

These platforms collect payment information directly. We do not store credit card information.

8. Permissions We Request (Android & iOS)

The Parent App may request the following permissions:

  • Camera – used only for QR code scanning during device linking
  • Internet / Network Access – used to communicate with the Kids App
  • Notifications – used to deliver alerts to the parent

9. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect data, including:

  • • Encrypted communication (HTTPS)
  • • Secure device pairing using QR codes
  • • Minimizing data collection and transmission

However, no system is completely secure.

10. Third-Party Services

We may use third-party services for:

  • • App functionality and push notifications
  • • Performance monitoring and crash reporting

These services do not receive full message content.

11. Data Retention

  • • Alert history is stored locally on the parent's device
  • • Account data is retained as long as the subscription is active
  • • Data is deleted when the app is uninstalled or the account is closed

12. Your Rights and Choices

Parents can:

  • • Unlink their device at any time
  • • Cancel their subscription
  • • Delete their account and associated data
  • • Clear alert history from the Parent App
  • • Modify configuration settings for monitoring

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date.
